Lola

In my second year of university, I took a Character Design class taught by the incredible sculptor and animator James Stewart (www.jamesstewartsculpture.com). This is my final project for that class. Meet: Lola.

SYNOPSIS

Lola grows up in an endless suburban neighbourhood, feeling outcasted from its lifeless, homogenous and almost robotic society. The only person she finds comfort in is her father - adventurer and risk-taker extraordinaire - who takes her on fishing and camping trips whenever time permits (or sometimes when it doesn’t). One day, when Lola is eleven, her mother receives a phone call that shatters her world: her dad has died in a tragic kayaking accident. Lola runs away from home and her mother is worried sick. An angry, sad and mostly confused Lola arrives in the huge sequoia forest her dad used to take her to and, through talking to the animals, discovers her true self. Unbeknownst to Lola, the animals’ habitat and her own safe haven is under the increasing threat of a development company that intends to turn the entire forest into a suburb expansion project.
